Under the patronage of Prof. Dr. Jawdat Nouri Al-Jashaami, President of Al-Ameed University, and the supervision of Prof. Dr. Riyadh Al-Salih, Dean of the College of Medicine, the Internal Medicine branch at the College of Medicine, in cooperation with Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital, held a medical awareness and educational seminar on breast cancer and its early detection, in line with October being the international month for the breast cancer challenge.
Asst. Prof. Dr. Lamia Abdul Kareem, an internal medicine specialist at Al-Ameed College of Medicine, said: "Affirming the approach Al-Ameed University takes in providing community services and raising societal awareness about diseases and their early detection, this seminar came to demonstrate that knowledge is the first line of defense against breast cancer. The disease—despite its seriousness—can be overcome with a recovery rate exceeding 90% if detected in its early stages."
Abdul Kareem added, "Awareness is not a luxury; it is a life saved, a woman reassured, and a family protected from pain and loss."
For her part, Dr. Anwar Mohammed Al-Hashimi, a specialist in the early detection of breast diseases and cancer at Al-Kafeel Super Speciality Hospital, said, "This seminar gives women the opportunity to understand the normal and abnormal changes in their bodies, introduces them to self-examination methods and advanced medical screenings, and breaks the barrier of fear and shame associated with the topic. It also promotes a culture of initiative rather than waiting, building a strong community that relies on prevention before treatment."
Al-Hashimi added, "Every aware woman becomes an ambassador of hope for others, and every correct word saves a life. Therefore, the seminar is not just a meeting; it is a message of safety and strength for every woman."
